Cerussite
Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Oshikoto Region, Namibia
Miniature
5 x 4.5 x 3.4 cm
This is a fine matrix cluster of intergrown cerussite crystals showing the reticulated twinning pattern from the Tsumeb Mine. When viewed from its best side, the crystals appear parallel grown, however the twinning is visible when viewed from the top. Reticulated cerussite is highly sought after, and is sometimes referred to as “snowflake cerussite”. This is an excellent miniature that comes from an older collection. Cerussite is soft, so unfortunately few pieces have no damage. The lustrous, slightly beige-colored crystals have fine aesthetics, with a few dings and internal fractures throughout the piece. One crystal has a missing termination, and the back edge of the piece shows abrasion rather than termination, this is easily hidden when displayed. These superbly glassy crystals are perched on a grey matrix, and reflect with rainbows under strong lighting.
